Conferences are a great way to bring together the best and brightest in an industry. Stakeholders, key influencers and leaders convene to collaborate and innovate around new ideas. The Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics Pacific Rim (CLEO PR), the OptoElectronics and Communications Conference (OECC), and the Photonics Global Conference (PGC) this summer, were no exception. Attracting leading international researchers, scientists and engineers actively involved in the photonics industry, this three-in-one mega-conference created a large international networking symposium for the discussion of new developments, concepts, and industry practices. Fiberguide, the leading specialty optical fiber manufacturer, was fortunate to attend and participate in all three conferences this past August, and were very delighted to meet face to face with many of their Asian clients.
Mic Chaudoir, Fiberguide’s VP of Sales & Marketing, gives the perfect summary: “This meeting provided an extremely cosmopolitan look in to the world of fiber optics. Fiberguide was able to visit several local customers, including innovative start-ups like Endofotonics. We also visited local dealers and conducted planning and training. Finally, we were visited by customers with applications ranging from high power laser delivery to arrays for telescope data transmission and data communications.”
During the conference, Devinder Saini, Fiberguide’s VP of Technology, presented a talk titled, “Specialty Optical Fiber and Assemblies Helping Industries Improve Performance.” Saini discussed the various types of specialty fiber and their applications and environments, such as astronomy, nuclear and medical. “In certain assemblies”, Saini shares, “fiber has to be built to survive various environments over time by having wide temperature and humidity ranges.”
The unparalleled energy, networking and collaboration realized through the merging of the three industry groups allowed Fiberguide to reach current and potential clients across Asia. “Singapore was a fantastic venue and offered a great destination for customers and businesses from all over Southeast Asia,” said Chaudoir.
With the optical technologies industry experiencing such tremendous growth, the pluralistic landscape of this mega-conference presented the world of fiber optics to a wide variety of attendees, and provided a diverse platform to discuss the uses of specialty fibers. As a thought leader in the industry, Fiberguide looks forward to next year’s event and more opportunities to further optical fiber education and use.
